Obtaining Information from Banks

 

Banks, Savings and Loan companies and Trustees are required by Hawaii law (H.R.S. § 531-20) to provide information to relatives of the decedent, who claim to be heirs, about the nature and kind of property held by them for the decedent. This information may be obtained by providing them with a sworn statement that the decedent has died, the date of death, that the person requesting the information is related to the decedent together with the relationship which existed, and that the person requesting the information claims to be an heir. The statement to the bank, savings and loan company or Trustee may be in the following form:
